Trại nuôi hổ lớn nhất thanh hóa
Những chú “chúa sơn lâm” được nuôi nhốt ở cồn Tàu Voi, thôn 17, xã Xuân Tín, huyện Thọ Xuân, tỉnh Thanh Hóa. Đây là đàn hổ được ông Nguyễn Mậu Chiến (SN 1970, người địa phương), đưa về nuôi nhốt trái phép từ năm 2006. Đến năm 2012, ông Chiến được Chi cục Kiểm lâm tỉnh Thanh Hóa cấp phép cho nuôi nhốt hổ.

Ông Nguyễn Văn Tư (anh rể và là người trông coi trại nuôi hổ) cho biết vào năm 2006, ông Chiến lên xã Na Mèo, huyện Quan Sơn, tỉnh Thanh Hóa đi mua gỗ về làm nhà thì gặp một số người dân bắt được đàn hổ con từ bên Lào về nên mua lại mang về nhà nuôi.
Đàn hổ có 16 con, lúc mới đưa về khoảng 3 - 4 kg/con. Cuối năm 2008, có 2 con bị bệnh chết, năm 2010 và 2012 thêm 3 con nữa chết nên hiện trang trại còn 11 con và đều trưởng thành, nặng từ 1,5 đến 2 tạ. Trong đàn hổ này, có một số con rất hung dữ, thấy người là chúng chồm lên dữ tợn, khiến người vào trang trại không khỏi rùng mình, ớn lạnh.
Trước đây, số hổ này được gia đình ông Chiến nuôi nhốt ngay tại nhà trong thôn 27, xã Xuân Tín. Không chỉ làm người dân lo lắng, mất ăn mất ngủ mỗi khi hổ đói ăn gầm lên mà chúng còn gây ô nhiễm môi trường cho khu dân cư. Đến năm 2010, trại nuôi hổ được xây dựng ở khu vực cồn Tàu Voi.
Dù xa khu dân cư, nhưng người dân vẫn lo lắng vì hiểm họa mà đàn hổ gây ra là khôn lường vì khu vực nuôi nhốt hiện nay chỉ cách đê Cầu Chày khoảng 300 m. Nếu đê vỡ, nước tràn vào thì nguy cơ hổ thoát ra ngoài là rất lớn.
